Harmoc Orientation

Harmoc Orientation

Went to NJ to collect my EAGLES award from the General Office and attended harmoc orientation yesterday:) Firstly I met up with Wuzhen during afternoon to go NJ together, where we decided to alight at coronation plaza and take a cab to see how fast the fare meter jumps lol.. Twenty cents for every three hundred and eighty-five metres=S After that we went for harmoc orientation.. Heard from Gladys that ninety over J1s signed up for harmoc during the CCA carnival, which was a pretty good figure to start off with:) Kudos to the seniors (J1s are juniors, J2s are seniors and J3s are alumni) for coming up with innovative ideas in promoting harmoc and making much effort to raise funds through newspaper collection for the upcoming concert in June:) Examples include the catchy slogan “harmonicar-music on the move”, a harmoc package containing a basic chromatic harmoc, instruction manual (self-made) and absolutely free training by the seniors! In addition, they discover several J1s with rare musical talents whom Mr Tang insisted that “they must not leave no matter what”.. Should these people stay in harmoc, we can expect to observe a tremendous improvement in the sound quality and music standard:D This brought back the memories from the past during the last orientation.. Back then harmoc was still quite a low-profile CCA, unlike other CCAs in NJ which already enjoyed widespread support such as the Canoeing team.. Besides we did not have that many members as compared to other major CCAs such as the Chinese Orchestra.. Furthermore we were unable to boast of any remarkable achievement as a gold in SYF was pretty much expected of us.. Indeed, we did not possess some of these advantages which some CCAs in NJ had but I was determined to let harmoc develop our comparative advantage against the others.. From my past experience and from what my friends had shared with me, I discovered that many of us stay in a CCA not because of its achievement, not because of its numerical strength, not because of its popularity but because of its people.. From the people, by the people and for the people.. Alright back to the orientation.. I must say the games which Jia Neng and Jamie play are really not for the faint-hearted, after the “panties” episode during the Christmas party at Glady’s house Jia Neng’s back with a vengeance with her “flour” game and “captain’s orange”=S The highlight was the “coffee string” which was intended to bond harmoc together---the extreme way=X I felt sorry and a sense of sympathy for the poor J1s who were supposed to play them but to my surprise it seemed that they were rather enthusiastic about these games! Felt bored after watching them play for a while and decided to play some basketball at the court with Zhen Huan, Angeline and Ying Hui.. The last time I played basketball in NJ was after A Levels and I felt great being able to play at there once again.. After the game harmoc watched some videos in one of the TA classrooms, we watched a video on last year’s orientation and another one on the genting trip.. Liked the Ju Hua Tai by Mr Tang:) When the whole thing ended Wuzhen and I stayed back to chat with the seniors and the EXCO updated us of the upcoming events for harmoc..

To the alumni: The seniors need our help! Do perform in their concert if you are able to! As for me let’s pray that I can be released from my chalet when the day of the concert comes (tentatively on 9 or 10 June).. Anyway, they are having newspaper collection on this coming Sunday so pls go down and support them if you can:)
